An Evening of Melodies and Verses at the Edinburg Library

Edinburg, TX, Nov. 8, 2023 – The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invites the public to a poetry and music event scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2023, starting at 6 p.m. Local poets and musicians will share their latest written words.

Local author and well-known poet Julieta Corpus will be the MC for the evening. Corpus began her writing journey at the age of 11. Since then, she’s graduated from the University of Texas, Pan American, earning a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her work has been featured in magazines and publications such as GalleryTendiendo PuentesMesquite Review, and others.

In 2013, local musician Mario Mora invited her to produce a compact disc titled Corazon Parlante, and in 2017, one of her poems was included in Solamente in San Miguel Volume III in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.

Other poets and writers featured throughout the night include Priscilla Suarez, Mark Esperanza, Melitón Hinojosa, Vera Huesca, Anne Estevis, Pedro García, and Diana Elizondo.

Artist Joel Bernal will also be exhibiting some of his work that evening. Bernal was born in Weslaco, Texas, but his roots are buried deep in Mazahuas, Mexico. He started drawing when he was relatively young, and although he never received any formal training, Joel persevered. He is inspired by traditional ranchera melodies from Mexico, as well as the famous political lithographer Jose Guadalupe Posada, muralist Alfredo Siqueiros, and artist Jorge Gonzalez Camarena. He hopes to find more places where he can exhibit his fantastic work.

Consider yourself part of the line-up for any poets interested in reading that evening; no pre-registration is required. For more information about this event, call the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library at 956-383-6246.
