One Dead After Alleged Drunk Driver Runs Red Light In Edinburg

Edinburg Texas, Sept. 9, 2023 – An alleged drunk driver is being held on intoxication manslaughter after an accident that resulted in the death of a female driver in another car.

According to Edinburg Police, the accident happened around 2:00 am Saturday morning at the intersection of Trenton Rd. and Closner Rd. Police officers reported that a white Chevrolet Silverado had struck a white BMW passenger car. After talking to witnesses, the police determined that the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado disregarded the red light at the intersection and struck the BMW.

The BMW was driven by Adrienne Ann Garza. There was also a male passenger in the BMW. Both were transported to a hospital. Garza was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, 22-year-old Juan Pablo Torres of McAllen, was arrested and is suspected of driving while intoxicated. A blood specimen was recovered through a search warrant. Torres was arrested for drunk driving. A firearm was also found at the scene.

On Sunday, Sept. 10, Torres was brought before a judge and was issued a $1 million bond on intoxication manslaughter, $500k for intoxication assault, and $25k for unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was transported to the Hidalgo County jail.

Edinburg Police added that they accident is still under investigation.
