UPDATED: Driver Arrested After Cyclist Injured In Edinburg Hit And Run
Edinburg Texas, Sept. 7, 2023 — Edinburg Police arrested 66-year-old Jose Espinoza, an Edinburg resident, after he fled the scene of an accident. A person riding their bicycle along University Drive suffered minor injuries after an accident with a car.
Espinoza left the scene but was later caught. He was charged with hit and run. The bond was set at $35,000.
On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, shortly after 11 a.m., Edinburg Police Department officers responded to the area of University Dr. and Sugar Rd. in reference to an accident involving a cyclist.
Upon arrival, officers were advised that the vehicle involved, a Chrysler 300 silver in color, had fled the scene of the accident. The cyclist suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
With the help of good samaritans, Edinburg police officers were able to locate the Espinoza near Edinburg City Hall, where he was subsequently arrested. The case remains under investigation.
