TODAY: Edinburg’s “Walk with the Mayor” Starts Today

Edinburg, Texas, September 1, 2023 – Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. is launching an exciting milestone for the community – the city’s first “Walk with the Mayor” event, scheduled to take place today, Friday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m.

The walk will begin at Edinburg Central Fire Station located at 212 W. McIntyre Street, and participants will then take the scenic route around Edinburg City Hall. This event is poised to foster unity, health, and camaraderie among residents while embracing an active lifestyle.

This exciting initiative is part of the 2023 Move with the Mayor™ (MWTM) campaign, aimed at fostering positive changes in physical activity habits to yield significant health benefits for both city employees and residents.

Through the MWTM initiative, the City of Edinburg joins hands with mayors from across the nation who are dedicated to improving heart health and reducing health risks by inspiring individuals to embrace a more active and health-conscious lifestyle. Mayor Garza recognizes the importance of setting an example and leading the way toward a healthier community, both physically and mentally.

“Move with the Mayor™ provides us with an exceptional platform to instigate a small but impactful change in our daily lives,” Mayor Garza said. “By increasing our physical activity, we can achieve significant results in terms of heart health, engagement, and the overall well-being of our residents and city employees. I’m excited to lead the way in this journey toward improved health and a stronger community culture.”

As Edinburg embraces the MWTM initiative, it is dedicated to creating a healthier, more vibrant, and tightly-knit community. The “Walk with the Mayor” event on Friday serves as a pivotal step towards achieving these goals and encouraging positive change. Members of the public, along with city employees, are encouraged to participate. There will be a number of events in Edinburg during September to promote a healthier lifestyle.
