Suspect Turns Himself In After Shooting Incident

Edinburg, TX, March 22, 2023

Oscar Ivan Ortiz, a suspect identified as the potential gunman in a shooting last week in Edinburg, turned himself in to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office yesterday. 

On Thursday, March  16, 2023, at  approximately 4:00PM., Hidalgo  County Sheriff’s Deputies responded  to 3600 Block of Alamo Road in rural Edinburg, in reference to a gun shot wound, which was later reclassified to Deadly Conduct. 

At the site of the incident, Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with a 34-year-old male victim who reported a man driving a maroon car arrived at his house and shot several times towards his residence.  Deputies observed the victim had no injuries, but the residence had several bullet holes. 

Deputies searched the area for the male suspect, but he was not located.  On Friday, March 17, 2023, Sheriff Investigators identified 32-year-old Edinburg resident, Oscar Ivan Ortiz through  supporting  statements, photographic  lineups,  and  physical  evidence. Investigators secured a Deadly Conduct arrest warrant for Ortiz.

On Tuesday of this week, Oscar Ivan Ortiz was turned over by his attorney to Sheriff’s Investigators and Justice of the Peace Jason Pena at his office.  

Ortiz was formally charged with Deadly Conduct 3rdDegree Felony and bond was set at $30,000.00 cash surety.

According to a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson,  no  other  suspects  are  being  sought  at this time. However the spokesperson  encouraged  witnesses  with  any information  regarding  this  case  to  come  forward.  Contact  the  Hidalgo  County Sheriff’s Office at 956-383-8114.
