Barbie Collection On Loan To Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library

Edinburg, TX – In honor of National Barbie Day, celebrated every year on March 9, local Barbie collector, Lidia Guerra, will be loaning a portion of her collection to be displayed at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library.

. Guerra has a collection of over 100 Barbie dolls representing many holidays, cultures, careers, and nationalities. “I enjoy collecting Barbie Dolls and other items because I exchange ideas with others and learn from other cultures,” said Ms. Guerra. The cultural exchange and representation are what Ms. Guerra feels makes Barbies so special. “For instance, a younger girl who has a Barbie doll representing a nurse will envision becoming a nurse.” she said, listing how Barbies can help empower children.

The Children’s Department will host a program on Saturday, March 11, at 1 P.M. in honor of National Barbie Day. The program will include a story time, a hands-on activity, and a special presentation by Ms. Guerra. The collection will be on display for the public beginning March 9 and will stay up for the duration of the month in the Children’s Department. “I hope the children visiting enjoy the Barbie Dolls display,” stated Ms. Guerra.
