Rash Of Car Burglaries Plagues Edinburg Residents

EDINBURG, Texas — January 28, 2023
Edinburg police cautioned Edinburg residents to be aware of a series of car burglaries in Southwest Edinburg. Police reported that 24 vehicles were burglarized last week in that area of town.
On Friday, January 27, Edinburg police reported that they were called to neighborhoods between the 2100 and 2800 blocks of South McColl Road. After meeting with a number of residents, police officers determined that at least 24 vehicles had been broken into over the period of a few days.
After review of surveillance cameras, a male suspect was observed walking the neighborhood looking for unsecured vehicles, police officers said. The suspect accessed the victim’s vehicles through unlocked doors.
Edinburg police urge the public to take preventive measures:
1. Locking your car and taking your keys
2. Parking in well-lighted areas
3. Using a car garage if you have access to one
4. Hiding any valuables left in the vehicle
5. If you see suspicious activity, call Edinburg PD
