Edinburg Vanguard Student Allegedly Threatens To ‘Shoot Up The School’

Edinburg Police continue the investigation into a report of a student who made violent threats to other students at Vanguard Academy in Edinburg.
On Thursday January 26, 2023, at approximately 2:59 p.m., Edinburg Police Department officers responded to a call for assistance at Vanguard Academy, 2215 S. Veterans Blvd. in reference to an offense report.
At the school, a campus administrator informed Edinburg Police that the IT department had flagged documents allegedly written by a 14-year-old student.
The document was typed into a school-owned laptop and reportedly contained violent threats towards other students and stated that the student was going to “shoot up the school.” The document also contained vulgar comments and a second violent plan.
School administrators said they contacted the student’s parents after the document was found. The parents then picked up the student. It was after that, that school staff contacted the Edinburg Police Department
After meeting with school staff, the Edinburg Police investigated the matter through the Juvenile Investigations Division. It was then reported that the student was being admitted to a mental health facility for further evaluation.
Edinburg Police reported that this continues to be an open investigation and no immediate threat exists at the campus. The student’s name was not released.
