The Edinburg City Commission is set to hold is regularly scheduled meeting tonight. In addition to the regular list of items, one item listed for Executive Session includes discussion about the city manager’s duties and responsibilities.
Listed as “Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Duties and Responsibilities of City Manager – Consultation with Attorney,” the item will be addressed during the Executive Session that is closed to the public. Myra L. Ayala was appointed city manager by the current Board of Council members in April of 2022.

Ayala served as the city’s Interim City Manager starting March 1, 2022 when former city manager Ron Garza announced he was stepping down to take a position with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Ayala was first hired by the city of Edinburg in August of 1998 and served in multiple capacities including Senior Secretary, Records Supervisor, Director of Business Operations & Marketing for the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, and City Secretary. Any official action on changing Ayala’s duties and responsibilities will be done once the city council returns to public session.
