ECISD Board Appoints New Principals At De Escandon And Longoria Schools

Edinburg TX, December 15, 2022

The Edinburg CISD School Board of Trustees this week approved appointing new principals for De Escandon Elementary and Longoria Middle School, along with other staff during their first meeting for the month.

During an almost four-hour meeting, the board exited a closed-door executive session to take action on personnel matters.

The Board approved Rebecca Echazarreta, currently curriculum assistant at De Escandon Elementary, as the new principal for the school.

The board also approved Jaime Serna, currently an assistant principal at Longoria Middle School, as the new principal for the school.

In other action, the board approved the hiring of Melissa Garza as a Speech Language Pathologist for the Special Education Department, Alejandro Martinez as a Coordinator for Data Management for the Technology Department and two Educational Diagnosticians for the Special Education Department.

The Board also approved the Superintendent’s Recommendations concerning employment, resignations, retirements, non-renewals, and terminations as discussed in executive session but did not any specific persons to be affected.

The Board also approved the termination of at-will employee Susana Escobar. No explanation was provided for the termination or the circumstances involved.

In other business, the board went through routine matters.
