Hidalgo County Judge Cortez Launches ‘Recite Me’ Assistive Website Toolbar
EDINBURG – In an effort to enhance accessibility to the functions of Hidalgo County government, the Office of Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez announced today the launch of the Recite Me assistive toolbar. The toolbar offers website visitors an inclusive online experience, enabling website visitors of all abilities, including people with visual impairments, to access the website barrier-free.
The internet can be an incredibly intimidating place for those with access barriers. Those lacking the tools they need to adequately understand or communicate are at a significant disadvantage.
“We have had a series of meetings with people representing the community of persons with disabilities and this online tool is a significant step forward in being inclusive with everyone in Hidalgo County,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez. “ I encourage other entities to assess how we communicate with the public with the goal of reaching more of our residents.”
As part of the county’s diversity and inclusion efforts, website users can now customize their digital experience while visiting the website thanks to a wide range of accessibility and language support tools. The assistive tools include a screen reader, multiple reading aids, translation to over 100 languages, customizable styling options, and more.
To explore our accessibility support tool, please visit hidalgocounty.us and click the accessibility button located in the lower left corner of the screen. The toolbar will launch at the top of the user’s web browser.
