Edinburg PD Arrests Multiple Suspects, Seize $13K+ Worth of Cocaine

A call about suspicious activity resulted in Edinburg Police arresting four individuals and seizing a 163.91 gram package of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $13,000.

On August 17, 2022, at approximately 1:00 am, Edinburg officers were dispatched to the area of Freddy Gonzalez and 28th Street in reference to suspicious activity. Officers arrived at the scene and saw a white semi-tractor with a trailer in the 1700 block of South 28th Street. 

Officers made contact with four individuals inside the semi-tractor.  They have been identified as 32-year-old Alberto Ramirez, 28-year-old Karla Maribel Lopez-Portales, 27-year-old Adan Polanco, and Jorge Arguetay Argueta.  During the investigation, a package containing 163.91 grams of cocaine was discovered.  It was also determined that three of the four individuals are undocumented. 

Alberto Ramirez was arrested and charged with 3rd Degree Felony Smuggling of Persons. Ramirez is being held on a $35,000 bond.

Karla Maribel Lopez-Portales was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Lopez-Portales was given a $40,000 bond.

Adan Polanco faces one count of 2nd Degree Felony Possession of Controlled Substance. An arraignment is pending his release from the hospital.

Jorge Arguetay Argueta was released to U.S. Border Patrol. 

This case is still under investigation.
